Massachusetts (MA) Energy & Efficient Window Performance Cash Rebates & Incentives. Cash rebates and incentives available to New York homeowners who upgrade to energy efficient windows.

This article discusses the cash rebates and incentives (including loans) available to homeowners in the state of Massachusetts for upgrading to energy efficient windows. Some programs listed aim to improve home energy performance in general; others explicitly focus on efficient window performance. They may be offered by your state, your local energy supply company, or the two working together. They can help you pay for the costs of upgrading or replacing the windows in your home.

State Incentive and Rebate Programs 

At this time, no energy efficient window incentive programs are offered by the state of Massachusetts.

Utility Company Sponsored Incentives and Rebate Programs

  • Mass Save (participants include Berskhire Gas, Blackstone Gas Company, Bay State Gas Company, Columbia Gas, Cape Light Compact, National Grid, New England Gas Company, NSTAR, Unitil, and Western Massachusetts Electric) 

Incentive/Rebate Program: The HEAT Loan Low Interest Financing for 2011 Program offers interest-free loans (up to $15,000) that must be paid back within seven years. Qualifying improvements include ENERGY STAR replacement windows. A preliminary energy audit is required.

  • Holyoke Gas & Electric 

Incentive/Rebate Program: The Commercial Assistance Program provides interest-free loans (which must be paid back within five years) to the owners of multi-family investment properties with five or more units. The maximum loan for energy efficient improvements is $20,000 ($2,500 maximum per unit). Qualifying improvements include window replacement with ENERGY STAR windows.

Incentive/Rebate Program: The Commercial Energy Efficiency Loan Program offers up to $20,000 in interest-free loans for ENERGY STAR windows and skylights with U-values of 0.60 or less. The program also covers the purchase of storm windows. Loan amounts are offered at a $5,000 minimum and must be repaid within five years. These loans require energy audits and cover replacement windows only. 

Incentive/Rebate Program: The Residential Energy Conservation Program offers interest-free loans of up to $5,000 for single-family homeowners, which must be paid back within five years. The program also offers loans of up to $10,000 (with a five-year payback period) for owner-occupied multifamily dwellings with four or fewer units. The maximum loan amount provided is $5,000 per unit for energy efficient improvements, including storm windows and ENERGY STAR replacement windows. 

  • Wakefield Municipal Gas & Light Department 

Incentive/Rebate Program: The Energy New England Program offers homeowners up to 25 percent reimbursement on the total cost of energy improvements with a maximum reimbursement credit of $300. Qualifying improvements include energy efficient window replacement, storm windows, and weather stripping. A qualifying energy audit is required.
