Looking at the Different Types of Slider Windows

Slider windows are also called sliding windows. They operate by sliding horizontally along the window frame. Slider windows are a common choice because they brighten a room and offer large unobstructed views. These windows offer the same benefits, no matter which type you choose.

The two main types of slider windows are double-slider and single-slider.

  • Double-slider windows have a contemporary look. They have two movable sashes, meaning both ends slide open. They don’t use any interior or exterior space, so they work well over kitchen sinks and counters. Although a common choice for kitchens, double-slider windows satisfy bedroom egress requirements. During the summer month’s you can install screens on the inside or outside of the windows. Installing an air conditioner can be tricky, so hire a professional for job. Double-slider window prices vary by manufacturer, size, material, and the type of hardware. Prices range from $80 to $200 or more.
  • Single-slider windows have one sliding sash, meaning only one end slides open. Although this limits the options for airflow from different directions, the advantage to this type of windows is the price. There are fewer components, so the window costs less. Prices still vary by manufacturer, size, material, and the type of hardware, but single-slider windows start at around $60, and usually cost less than $150.

Some manufacturers custom make small sliding windows that can be installed over or under existing windows. This extra window creates additional light and airflow in the room.
